Camino is a Spanish word which inter alia refers to a road, way, journey, trail, path.
At Camino Coaching we interpret it as “the way” because for us coaching in nature and with nature as the catalyst is really the best way to assist people to grow emotionally and spiritually as derived from personal experience.

At Camino Coaching we facilitate your re-connection with nature by making you aware of and bringing you in touch with all your natural senses through nature-based activities. Assisted by the power of nature and the profound metaphors it provides, we facilitate and coach people to become healthier and happier natural beings.

Well-being in nature

“Climb the mountains and get the good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like falling leaves.” John Muir

Disconnected from ourselves

How have we become so disconnected from nature, ourselves and each other that fear, anxiety, stress, conflict and its many negative spin-offs dominate our lives, steal our health, poison our relationships, unsettle our communities, cause havoc in and between countries, threaten peaceful co-existence and damage our planet?

We long for health, wellness, happiness and longevity and spend billions on products substituting what is readily freely available in nature. But the gifts of nature, the good feelings you gain from being in nature cannot be compressed in a pill and swallowed. If you do however believe this, you must also believe that human goodness can be packaged like that – a case of: “So you like my life, health and energy? No problem, here, swallow this and you will be like me in no time!”

Nature is intelligent, wise, sensible, and sensitive. Unlike us, it has no labels, it does not judge or discriminate and diversity co-exists in peace and harmony, embraced by all. Nature does not have an “I”, “me”, or “us”, lesser or better than other. Unity prevails, all is one, in harmony.

Our inner nature, the Being that is part of our Creator mirrors the perfect balance of nature in every possible way because we are an inherent part of nature, of all that is. But we have become disconnected from nature, from ourselves, each other, dis-membered, lured into an existence where the real beauty of who we are, is denigrated by ourselves and others who are similarly disconnected and so we seek meaning in things and substances far inferior to us and to what we can and must become.
“Watch any plant or animal and let it teach you acceptance of what is, surrender to the Now. Let it teach you Being. Let it teach you integrity – which means to be one, to be yourself, to be real. Let it teach you how to live and how to die, and how not to make living and dying into a problem.” Eckhart Tolle

Reality is, no artificially produced substances can bridge the divide in ourselves and the disorder in our lives that our disconnection from nature has caused but we can – by consciously engaging with nature through all our senses.
The only trustable experience is the immediate moment using all our senses. Michael J Cohen

Multiple natural senses

It is commonly known that we have five natural senses, i.e. sight, smell, taste, feeling and hearing. But in fact, we have many natural senses, and being in nature assists us to identify and open ourselves to use all our senses, realising how we fit into the web of life and thus life itself becomes more meaningful and rewarding.
“As we strengthen our natural attraction senses, they become more alive in our consciousness. We begin to safely think with nature’s intelligence, in a way that is more feeling, sensible and sensitive to people and the environment. This helps us feel more alive and make sense of our lives. For this reason, many educators, counselors and leaders advocate and use nature-reconnecting activities. It is why every form of education, counselling and healing works better when it is in contact with attractions in nature. It is why we bring flowers to sick people and pets increase our wellness and sanity.” Michael J Cohen
Nature also helps us to identify the ‘wranglers’ in our lives, i.e. our limiting beliefs and misplaced fears and anxieties that stop us from realising our full potential and, in the process, it counsels, teaches and heals.

Natural ‘high’

On a scientific level it has been conclusively proven that nature is an excellent stress reliever and assists with cognitive restoration which is an important factor in keeping stress at bay. Even brief periods in nature can reduce the stress hormone cascade, improve immune defense and lead to a more rapid and complete recovery from stress. This is because nature has a sort of ‘valium effect’ which lowers the levels of the stress hormone cortisol as well as lowering blood pressure and pulse rates and fostering positive thoughts. Being in nature also increases heart rate variability, which is a good thing because it means the circulatory system can respond well to stress and can detect a dominance of the ‘calming’ branch of the nervous system (the parasympathetic nervous system).

Re-connection to wisdom

With these realities and facts in mind, the wise amongst us are re-connecting with nature to regain our health and well-being.
“In the woods we return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me in life – no disgrace, no calamity (leaving me my eyes), which nature cannot repair. Standing on the bare ground – my head bathed by the blithe air and uplifted into infinite space – all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eyeball; I am nothing, I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am a part or a particle of God.” Ralph Waldo Emerson circa 1860
